Why Your Business Needs a Website

I am constantly running into people that “need a website.” The problem is that many of them don’t realize that building a website is extremely complex and not just something that your twice removed third cousin can do…unless he’s a web designer of course.

My point is that in this day and age, every company needs a website. Everyone needs a web presence that will entice the person that comes across it to look more into what you offer and hopefully use you as the company of choice. So outlined below are some examples as to why your company needs a website now.

People Use the Internet

Lets face it, the Internet isn’t going away anytime soon. I think back to an episode of The Simpson’s occasionally where Homer said “The internet…is that thing still around?” It cracks me up but also totally makes sense. I can remember a time when I couldn’t stand social media. I thought it was a fad but was sadly mistaken.

Now I see how great it can be and how much it has changed our everyday lives though. Can you imagine a day where you don’t get to check your email or your Facebook account? I’m personally connected to the Internet 24 hours a day via phone if nothing else.

So like I said, people use the Internet. They use it to browse for ideas for what they want to purchase. They use it to research products and get reviews from users that made the purchase before them. The Internet is used to make decisions. Bing, Microsoft’s new search engine, is considered a decision engine. I would consider the Internet itself a decision engine.

I know for a fact that my wife and I will research everything from restaurants to clothing to furniture before we ever hit the road. And most of the time we know what we’re getting before we get to the store. Try telling me that your company doesn’t need a website that looks great and functions with ease for the upcoming generation.

Your Website Is Your Storefront

Years ago it was all about location, location, location. Not anymore. Unless, of course, you consider your location in the search engines which can have a huge impact on the ability to grab new customers. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is very important to some companies if you’re looking to attract new customers via the Internet. It simply means that your site is optimized with key words that will rank you as high as possible for certain search terms.

Blogs have made way for this much more over the past several years. Updated and fresh content is highly important to users and search engines alike.

Social Media Is NOT a Fad

It’s been said that social media is a fad. But I tell you, it’s not. Social media is a revolution. It’s a new way to communicate. It’s a new way to create contacts for your business or personal life. It’s a new way of life and it’s not going away anytime soon. There’s an outstanding video on YouTube about this, click here to watch it.

So like I said, it’s not going away so it’s time to embrace it. It’s time that your business utilizes social media to build a community around your product and help establish you as the leader and go to company for whatever service you offer. It’s time to create an Internet presence that will drive more business your way and help you create an outstanding brand.

What is holding you back from getting online or getting noticed by new customers? What was a major obstacle you were able to overcome to get where you are now on the Internet.
