The Case For Passion

People are passionate about all kinds of things. Debt. Design. Piercings. All sorts of things.

We define ourselves by what we do and we typically do things that we’re passionate about. But what happens when we lose that?

We have no choice but to regain it. Or else.

When we have passion about something, we’re ready to take on the world. We’re ready to attack the day. It’s something that comes from within and I’m not sure how much control we really have over it.

I do think that there are factors that drive the passion within us though. I’ve got a few going for me right now.

A little story

I’m a night owl. In fact, I don’t really like sleep at all for that matter. It would be awesome if I didn’t have to sleep. But I’ve tried, and apparently, I’m human.

But recently something has come over me. I’ve become much more passionate about several things in my life and it’s forced me to take drastic measures.

Those drastic measures involve getting up at 5 am. Crazy. I know.

Well, to be honest, it’s only been a few days…but I’m loving it so far. It’s in the plans to keep this passion and make it a point to get up early so I can accomplish more throughout the day. Not because there’s anything special about morning in particular, but for some reason I tend to be more productive when I’m up early.

And fyi, my current passion—writing.

When we lose our passion

We become stale. We become something that we never want to be. I’m a very outgoing and energetic person…but when my passion leaves me, I’m not quite myself. I recently posted a video (though not a very good one) about how the world is missing your talent. In there I say that you’re cheating yourself and the world if you’re not acting on your talent. Talent and passion go hand in hand.

It’s time to rediscover your passion. Go. Now. – Click to Tweet

So what about you?

What are you passionate about that just really gets you rolling? It doesn’t have to be early. You can be a night owl and it keeps you up late. But what is it? Have you let mediocrity set in and now you’re just floating along with the rest of the world doing just enough to get by?

I know you’re not. You’re better than that.

Question:

What have been your experiences with passion? Have you lost it or gained it recently?
